Summer 2006.
I created a music video for a music group called the Taikonauts. The name of the group is derived from the Chinese word for “astronauts”, which can be literally translated as “men in a huge empty space”.

In the video, a Chinese rocket assembles itself and takes of into the “huge empty space”, representing the vast landscape of mainstream music industry, devoid of meaningful work.

When the rocket reaches orbit, it releases a satellite, which opens up its solar panels and transmits music to Earth. This transmission also imparts the values of the Taikonauts, which are defined during the rocket’s assembly.

After producing the animated video, I sought ways to improve the look of the rocket by adding a motion blur to it in an illustration, shown here.
